Biography of Sifu Mark Small
Mark Small holds black sashs as a Yang Family fifth generation instructor through the Choy Kam Man Academy of San Francisco, a first generation Lingyunpai instructor through Chen Pan Ling’s International Martial Arts Foundation of the People’s Republic of China, as well as through Grandmaster Liang Shou Yu’s International Wushu Sanshou Dao Association. Mark found his first master teacher in Choy Kam Man of San Francisco in the early 1970’s. CKM’s father, Choy Hok Pang of Hong Kong, had the distinction of being called, the “father of taiji in America.” Hok Pang was a student of Yang Cheng Fu and who sent him to teach Chinese emigrant families in New York, San Francisco and Los Angles. Mark began his CPL taiji practice with Kai Sung of the People’s Republic of China who was a student at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1975. Mark demonstrated at A Taste of China in Virginia, the Baltimore Kuoshu tournament, and the Carolina Association of Chinese Martial Artists (CACMA) tournament in Charlotte where he sits as a board member.
